Marshall

With high winds howling through most of LA/Ventura/SB counties, I was surprised to find conditions at Marshall to be quite mellow Saturday.  The wind was projected to arrive after sunset so Darren and I drove to Marshall to get some of the good stuff.

We arrived at launch at 1 PM.  Cloudbase was around 5000 and winds were light SW.  The majority of the sky was clouded over but the sun was breaking through a few holes.  I launched in what looked liked possibly OD'ing conditions but immediately climbed in extra fat lift.

It was super easy and lift was everywhere.  No turns needed.  Just up and up and up wherever you went.  I spent more than half my flight with big ears to keep a healthy distance from CB.  More than a few occasions I found myself on big ears and speed bar going up 400 to 500 fpm.

I joined Len Szafaryn for a big ear merry-go-round down by the 750.  It was amazing how lifty it was down low too.  Down low, big ears, not even trying and going up.

Eventually I got tired working to stay down (imagine that), so I landed after an hour or so.

It's not very often you run into such buoyant conditions.  On a day where most sites were blown out, we got lucky.  It's been said since Pipkin's been away all the good weather around here has been cursed.  Well, on occasion Pipkin forgets to hex a site or two and if you're attentive, you can sneak in a good flight.
