The day prior, pilots had flown from Pine to the Beach at Santa Claus Lane.  The lapse rate still looked good up high, but there were indications of wind from the south.  Pine was blown out form the south.  Topa was a bit also a bit windy from the SW, and that seemed to prevail all the way to Piru.

Despite the hot weather down low, the air seemed a bit laminar.  Pilots at Kagel did ok reporting big altitude, but we couldn't get much higher than the mid 5s closer to the coast
