That may be the site record.  I've flown the SW side of that twice in the late '90s. Went OTB once but fell out of the thermal in my AT-121.  I know Rob McKenzie once got to 12K off a little sand dune at El Mirage.  I always thought the higher butte to the SW would be a better starting point for the prevailing flow.  I hiked it once but the winds were too cross to fly.
