Labor Day let down

On paper the weather looked similar to Sunday.  The main topic on the ride up to launch in SA’s truck was “the day’s going to be a bust if we don’t all get through the pass”.  The anticipation of big altitudes and distances had whipped us into a frenzy.  Its like, “going on a blind date just knowing your getting laid”.  Ron’s comment after the flight was “my date turned out to be a drag queen”.  I felt stood up.

I launched in the middle of the pack and struggled up to 7k.  West bound w/6.8k.  Took a poor line to Nordhoff peak and ended up flushing to Bruce's.  The reports from other pilots were once they sunk below the mid 3’s it was tough to get back in the game.  I hung on for 30 minutes at 3-3.5k and could have all day.  The air was nasty and I was soaked with sweat, it was friggin hot!  I bailed for a weedy field next to Orange Ave.  100 deg. + on the ground.

Chad’s comment summed it up best, it’s a different day.  And indeed it was.
