Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
435 AM PDT Fri Oct 1 2021
SYNOPSIS...01/353 AM.
Very warm and dry conditions will continue through the weekend, though some cooling is expected for coastal areas. Marine layer clouds will likely return to the Central Coast and possibly some other beach areas of the weekend. A cooling trend is expected Monday through Wednesday, with an increase in night through morning low clouds and fog.
SHORT TERM (TDY-SUN)...01/349 AM.
Skies were clear across the region this morning. Some low clouds have spread into the coastal waters off the Central Coast, and could push into the beaches today. Otherwise, expect a sunny day across the region. Pressure gradients were about 3 mb offshore between KLAX and KDAG. There were locally gusty winds in the mountains of L.A. and VTU Counties this morning. Winds may increase a bit around sunrise and spread into the valleys and into coastal sections of Ventura County, but should remain safely below advisory levels.
Heights will rise some across the region today, as will temp at 950 mb. Expect max temps today to be a bit higher than they were on Thu in most areas, except within a few miles of the coast, where an earlier return of the sea breeze will likely bring some cooling. There may well be as much as 10 degrees of cooling in some locations across the coastal plain, depending upon how quickly the sea breeze develops at a particular location, but pinpointing that exact zone of significant cooling is very difficult.
An upper low will develop well to the west of Point Conception late tonight and Sat, then this upper low will drift southward Sat night and Sunday. During this time, an upper level ridge will linger across the region, and heights may actually rise a bit more over the weekend. Gradients will remain weakly offshore during the night thru morning hours, then flip weakly onshore each afternoon. There could be some locally gusty NE winds in the mtns and valleys of L.A. and VTU Counties during the late night thru morning hours tonight thru Sun, but winds will be well below advisory levels. The 3 km WRF suggest late night thru morning low clouds and fog on the Central Coast tonight thru Sun, and possibly near the immediate beaches of L.A. County. The marine layer will be shallow, so any fog may be dense. Expect little change in max temps Sat or Sun, though there may be some additional cooling in coastal areas, and slight warming in the mtns and the Antelope Valley. Overall, expect temps to be well above normal for early October.
