Soboba Valley Crossing and Back

Hiked up from the LZ to 800′ launch in 92F temperature.
Launched 2 hours and 45 min before sunset.
After reaching 6000′ started to do an upwind valley crossing toward dark fields in middle showing 2-3 active dust devils.  Lost about 2000′ until reaching mid-valley and regaining up to about 5200′ before completing the crossing.
Found myself getting low over ridge on far valley side and starting to consider landing options. Then found a thermal back up to top of lift and started an easy return with tailwind to the flying site.
Flight summary according to my GPS: 2 hours 25 min, reached 6010′ MSL, valley crossing is about 6 miles (10 km).
