as per XCfind, the 4th longest SLOFD leg in the United States today (Thursday) and the longest flight in Santa Barbara County

The day looked iffy due to extensive overcast (OD) but the low level lapse rate was good and the next few days (through the weekend) looked poor, so opted to go.  A bit late getting to launch. Initially nice cycles upon hiking up to the ridge line but by the time Dave Patterson launched it was light and weak from the SW.  Happy to be able to stay up.  Mostly held the high ground and didn't search downhill east of takeoff.  My minimum altitude was only about 30 feet below takeoff altitude, but initially could only get about a hundred over.  Opted for a top landing to assist James with his launch.  Doing a little better on the 2nd flight.  Searched out to the west point several times hoping to find a workable thermal and was eventually able to get 300 over takeoff.  Pulled a good glide to Snowball, arriving with over thousand, thinking surely I would climb up to cloudbase (we typically get higher at Snowball) but nada.
