On the south launch it felt like light north over the back with cycles occasionally coming up the south side.  I launched second after Mitch into a nice cycle that gave me a nice lofty line.  It was a bit turbulent as expected as we were launching into the Lee.

Once I was far enough from the terrain and out of the turbulence, I was surprised by the strength of the north west wind.  I saw Mitch below me gliding towards the highway.  I decided to use my height to fly back towards the terrain to find a good climb.  All I found was sink and turbulence.  When I turned around back towards the highway I noticed Mitch climbing and went full speed to him.  When I arrived he was already 500 feet above me and I tried to work the light lift below him.  It must have been the tail end of the thermal because I could not connect with what Mitch was in and had to eventually glide out to land on the highway.  I had fun flying a new site, thanks to Tom Truax for the site intro and amazing local knowledge.
