Trango

Met up with Diablo, Southside, Jonathan at Bailard about 8:30.  Conference with Ron Faoro, Bob Hulbert, and Andy Dainsberg at Parma a little before 9.  On launch about 9:15.  Was expecting sun, but we had building OD.  A redtail was soaring at the Rock on the way up, but we had mostly shade at the Skyport.  Nice time of year.  Green grass, but not overgrown.

First off about 9:50.  Nothing worth turning for on launch, but got up to cloudbase out front.  Pretty easy going eastbound.  There was sun out front further east.  I was trying to hold the high ground for insurance.  Never got above 4K until Divide Peak.  Cloudbase varied.  A little lower out front and back in SB.  A little higher in the back and down range.  It was in the upper 3s at Noon.  Climbed above to 44 at Divide, but pulled a ziggy glide line and ended up out of position in the saddle behind Chismahoo.

Looked out front, but no luck.  Ran across Coyote Creek, but got to the other side too low.  Might have been able to get back up if I committed out front, but hiking Coyote Creek is not advisable, so I looped back around to run up Chismahoo trial as far as a could for a downwind uphill landing about 2150 MSL.

Made good time packing up and getting mobile.  Took about an hour to hike 2 plus miles to the relaunch knob off Superior Fuelbreak SE of White Ledge.  About 2550' MSL.  It's a little scruffy on top of the knob.  Took 3 pulls to get off.  Had to unhook and lay out again after each attempt.  Did a reverse pull up on the first attempt, but didn't have enough umph to commit toward the bushes over the edge.  Tried a front pull next, but the glider didn't fly the direction I needed it to go.  Finally opted for a reverse pull-up on the west side.  Ran down the fire break and then took a left to launch when I got light on my feet.

Pretty overcast by then.  Hit a few bumps on the way out, but nothing worth turning for.  Landed next to Hwy 150.

Packed up and thumbed a ride.  Had to wait about 15 minutes befor a CHP officer named Mike gave me a ride in the front seat of his cruiser all the way to my car at Bailard.  Home at 2:40.  Not bad for landing out in the Pass.
